Effingham Park District, City of Effingham and U of I Extension Master Gardeners are excited to welcome the first year of the Effingham Community Garden! If you live in Effingham and have always wanted to have a garden of your own, but never had the available space, now is your opportunity! Applications are being accepted through the end of February for available plots. An informational packet that includes registration and guidelines can be picked up at Effingham Park District or the Effingham Visitor Center!
The land being used for the community garden has been graciously provided by the Passalacqua family and is located south of the Bob’s Salvage building and directly behind the building containing Poss Music, Gotcha by the Hair and Tan Express. The gardening season will run from March 1st to November 1st. Plots are 15 ft by 15 ft and cost $25 a season for Effingham residents living within city limits. If you live outside of city limits, plots are available for $40 a season.
An added perk of having a plot in the Effingham Community Garden is the assistance of the U of I Master Gardeners! The Master Gardeners will be available to help with all gardening questions or concerns throughout the season. Other bonuses include wheelbarrows, hoses and access to water on site.
If the Effingham Community Garden sounds like something you would be interested in, stop by Effingham Park District or the Effingham Visitor Center and pick up your packet before it’s too late!
