The 4th of July is coming! Have you made your plans?

Kick off this American celebration with the 29th annual Lake Sara fireworks that will begin at 9:15 p.m. tomorrow, July 3rd. (In case of inclement weather, the fireworks will be held July 11.)

The fun starts at Lake Sara Beach in the early evening. The Effingham County Dive and Rescue Team will have a food stand, and Culver’s will be selling frozen custard to benefit the Dive Team. The Masonic Child Identification Program will be set up to provide parents the opportunity to create a kit of identifying materials for their child, free of charge. The purpose of the kit is to provide critical information in the event a child goes missing. Whether you’re in a boat on the lake or at the beach, Lake Sara’s fireworks are sure to be fun for the whole family.

Then come celebrate this year’s Independence Day with the City of Effingham! The 4th of July parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The route will head west on Jefferson Ave., south onto Cherry St., west onto Grove Ave. and will finish at Effingham High School. After the parade, make your way to the EHS Sports Complex to see the City’s fireworks display at dusk, which should take place around 9:00 p.m.

During this time, Effingham’s Knights of Columbus Hall will be hosting a parking lot party! Enjoy their beer garden, live music, food, drinks and more. Sawyer Brothers will be performing before the fireworks, starting at 6:30 p.m., and Matt Poss Band will be performing after the fireworks until midnight.

Enjoy what Effingham has to offer, and have a great holiday weekend!
