Whether you’re a van-lover or just looking for something new and fun to do this weekend, be sure to check out the 43rd Annual Van Nationals, hosted by Hard Core Vanners, taking place at the Effingham Country Fairgrounds in Altamont.
The festivities began yesterday and will run until this Sunday, July 12th. While you’re there, enjoy adult and kid games, Hot Wheels races, van merchandise and food vendors, the Vanner’s Memorial and Museum and more! Join the “There Goes the Neighborhood” social this afternoon; wine tasting this evening, starting at 6:30 p.m.; and live music by Off the Wall afterward.
But the fun doesn’t stop there! Tomorrow attendees can cheer on their favorite vans in the Show ‘n Shine and Bright ‘n Shine contests, while kids under the age of 12 can create a Model Make & Take from 11 a.m. to noon. Tethered hot air balloon rides will be available for $20 per person from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, and you can enjoy live music by Powerhouse in the afternoon and by Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters later in the evening. On Saturday, don’t miss the vans’ parade through town or Burn Out Contest, and be sure to see X-Krush perform live at the fairgrounds.
During Van Nationals, the hosts will be taking donations to benefit several different local charities. They’ll be collecting aluminum can tabs for the local Ronald McDonald House, canned and packaged foods for a local food bank and school supplies for students in need at local schools. In addition, a portion of the proceeds earned from the event will be donated to the Altamont branch of Meals on Wheels, Golden Circle Nutrition, whose funding was recently cut drastically.
So head out to the Effingham County Fairgrounds anytime now through Sunday to check out some truly unique vehicles, see live music, browse vendors, play games and make unforgettable memories–all to benefit a great cause. It’s sure to be a hit with the whole family!
